Igniting the Blaze...
In January of 2007, less than a month after his 30th birthday, I lost my best friend and teammate, David Cox to a battle with cancer. Since that
time, those who had the fortune to share his friendship and camaraderie decided to represent his passion and spirit by founding Battle Creek
Blaze. By establishing a professionally-focused, charity-driven opportunity for responsible, altruistic adults to participate in David’s passion,
our organization will strive to embody all that David was, and all he aspired to be. It is our mission that through our play, volunteer efforts,
appearances, and endorsed events, cancer awareness will be brought to our community's forefront, so that no one else has to suffer the way all
of us who love David have, and continue to do.
A few of our organization's highlights since 2008:
• Helped inspire a sense of community spirit throughout the greater Battle Creek area.
• Provided positive role modeling of honesty, character and integrity through over 600 volunteer hours (as of October, 2009).
• Recorded nine victories while affording football athletes and coaches the opportunity to continue participating in the greatest sport in the
world, be it for preparation towards an advanced level, or for the love of the game.
• Established an incentive program ("Blaze A's") for local student-athletes to perform successfully in the classroom as well as on the gridiron.
• Acted as a catalyst in the battle of childhood obesity issues by offering athletic enrichment for the area’s youth in the form of sport-specific
camps, performance training workshops, physical fitness clinics, and health & wellness seminars. Please see our "Skillz 'N Drillz" leadership
session description for more information.
Donations, contributions, devises, transfers, bequests, gifts, and sponsorships are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code
and greatly appreciated. The Battle Creek Blaze is a Domestic Nonprofit Corporation with Public Charity Status 170(b)(1)(A)(vi), as well as
501(c)(3) Federal tax-exempt. Please help us carry-on for David Cox, and each of our loved ones who have succumbed to cancer. All of your
efforts, physical and financial, are guaranteed to make an impact. There is an “I” in choice – and you have the choice to join our team.
Help us W.I.N., What’s Important Now?
